Choctober Golden Tickets

There were 15 Golden Tickets dotted around the school in secret locations. If any pupil found one of these special tickets, they also discovered a chocolate-related quiz question on the back. You then had to go to the LRC with the ticket, find Mrs Marriott and answer the question correctly by to win a prize. This is all to promote our CHOCTOBER Big Writing event across many departments at CCHS

Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI)

The Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) is an international programme that aims to develop the community leaders of the future. Participants are given a hands-on experience of philanthropy that provides them with the skills and awareness to make a positive difference to their communities.
Pupils work in small groups to research the needs of their local community and identify the grassroots social service charity they believe is best placed to make a positive contribution. They then learn how to analyse the charity’s management, budget, strategy and staffing arrangements. Pupils visit and build relations with representatives from their chosen charity and, following skills training in advocacy and public speaking, present on the reasons their proposed charity is most deserving of support. The group judged to have made the best presentation in each school is granted £3,000 to award to their charity. During this process, pupils develop teamwork, communication and presentation skills as well as the technical skills needed for effective giving. The CCHS finals will take place on Thursday 11th October at 7pm in the LRC.

Prince’s Trust S4 xl Group

This term the S4 xl group are working on a project about our community – ‘Spotlight on Our Place’. They are focussing on Currie and seeing what things may be changed or improved. With our School Link Officer, PC Jimmy Dee, they walked around the Currie shops and surveyed the public on what they thought of the community, what other facilities they would like to have, what they would like to see done with the old primary school, any other improvements they would like, along with some other questions. They are now going to collate all the information and make a presentation of what they have found out.

PC Dee has also worked with the group on self defence and self awareness. He has helped them to know what to do if they ever find ourselves in a confrontational situation. The group also went on a walkabout around Currie with PC Dee. He has shown them how to be more aware of their surroundings and what is going on, and what he may look for as a policeman.
