Macmillan Coffee Morning

The S6 Charities Committee raised a phenomenal £238.11 when they organised a Macmillan Coffee Morning to support people living with cancer. The pupils produced a vast array of delicious homemade goodies that were quickly snapped up by an appreciative bunch of staff and pupils.
Thanks to everyone for their support and donations!

S3 Mock Election

S3 held a mock election on 27 September. Here is a report from Hannah and Amy, two of the S3 pupils involved.

In our S3 Modern Studies class we have been learning about voting. We first learned how people vote and why they vote. We did talks and wrote essays on why people should vote after we had all the knowledge we needed about this. We then spent 3 weeks preparing our own mock election campaign. We worked in groups to create the names and policies for our parties. Standing for election were Brilliant Britain, The Youth Party, The Greenhouse Party, Free Scotland Party, Sports4U and finally United. Each party elected a candidate to represent them and made posters and manifestos to advertise what we were standing for.

Pupils at CCHS casting their vote
We held our election campaign event in the LRC at lunchtime on the 27th September and pupils and staff came in to vote. It was our job to convince them to vote for us. We tried to persuade them to cast their vote for us by explaining our policies, showing them our posters and handing out badges. The LRC was very busy and people were crowded round the ballot box waiting for the Returning Officer to hand them their ballot paper to vote. Mr Radford and Mrs Rae said that they were delighted with the effort that we had put in and the very high standard of work that we had produced. There could only be one winner though and when the Returning Officer had counted the 204 votes cast the winning party was Faraz Sheikh’s Free Scotland Party with 46% of the vote.

Overall it was really fun having a Mock Election and it let us put the things we had learned into practice.
