Another great weekend for Currie Swimmers!

On 1st and 2nd December, Currie swimmers were again in action at the East District Championships. Only the best 15-20 swimmers in the East of Scotland for each age group achieve qualifying times to race at this event.

Cameron Finlayson cemented his position as one of the top 14 year old boys in Scotland with an impressive haul of medals; out of his 4 events, he got Gold in 200m Butterfly, and Silver in each of 200 Freestyle, Backstroke and Breaststroke.

His club and school team mate Andrew Sawkins is chasing him though, with an impressive 4th place in the Backstroke which is the event in which he will be representing the school at the upcoming Scottish Schools finals.

Caitlin Hamilton and Ciara Simms both just missed out on places in their respective finals of Butterfly and Freestyle with 7th positions, with only 6 places in the final.

Although she was well down the rankings, Ciara Simms swam a good personal best time in her 200 Freestyle. Ross Muego had a disappointing swim in the 200 Breaststroke but will be targeting the next round of the championships in February to get under the magic minute for 100 Freestyle.

The final round of the Championships will be in early February with the sprint events and relays. Caitlin will be looking forward to this as she is primarily a sprinter and no doubt will improve even more on her performance.

The swimmers are still all in hard training working towards achieving ever faster times and qualifying for the next, even tougher level of competition; the Scottish National Age Group championships which are held in April.

We will hear before Christmas what events they will be swimming in at the Schools Championship in January and will keep you updated on their progress.
